The Public Safety Drone Expo begins on Oct. 7, with two days of conference courses covering basic and advanced operations, management, safety and remote pilot-in-command operations.

The Public Safety Drone Unit Manager Course is designed to provide all public safety small unmanned aircraft systems unit managers and supervisors with the latest information and tools to effectively and efficiently manage, supervise and lead their agency's drone unit. Topics involving unit administration, budgets and finance, safety, standard operating procedures, training program management, legal and regulatory issues, and personnel selection will be covered. Each class is designed specifically for the manager and supervisor to enhance his/her ability to lead their unit. Maximum enrollment is 75.

Designed to help attendees prepare for FAA's Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate examination, the course is instructed by APSA Drone subject matter expert Tim Schuh. The course is a must for those members who wish to pursue their Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. The course will cover the National Airspace System, aerodynamics, radio communications, weather data, human factors and other pertinent information needed to assist students in passing the certification exam. Maximum enrollment is 40.

The course is designed to provide a review of safety management systems as they relate to the operation of drones. The course is specifically designed to introduce the student to SMS and assist them in applying safe strategies into their operation. The course is intended for public safety personnel interested in becoming knowledgeable about SMS, which is the industry standard for aviation safety. Successful completion requires attendance at all classroom sessions.  Upon completion of this training, clients will receive a Certificate of Completion, as well as a functional SMS Manual Template and Workbook to help guide the implementation their operation’s Safety Management System.  Course taught by FlightSafety International. Maximum enrollment is 40.

The updated and refreshed Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations Course is designed to take the student through the process of planning, purchasing, developing and implementing a public safety drone operation. The course will cover mission and applications, public acceptance, regulatory issues, drone program management, privacy and legal issues, as well as case studies of successful law enforcement drone programs. In addition, the course will have an in-depth review of FAR PART 107 rules and the certificate of authorization process. The course is geared toward public safety managers, supervisors and line personnel who desire a basic understanding of small unmanned aircraft systems. Maximum enrollment is 40.

The Advanced Public Safety Drone Operations Course is new for 2019. The course was developed for all aspects of public safety and will provide students with the latest information and tools to enhance their existing public safety drone unit. The course will include topics on tactical operations, unmanned and manned operations (risk mitigation), safety, operating to standards, fire service operations, law enforcement operations, SAR operations, digital media evidence, training issues and other topics beyond the basic operation of a drone unit. The course will be instructed by experts in public safety aviation drone operations. Maximum enrollment is 75.
