A police helicopter flying over the Antalya coast crashed in the late afternoon in the center of the city. The helicopter, a MD600N, was carrying five top level members of the police force, all of whom were killed in the accident. The helicopter was piloted by Chief Police Officer, Pilot Kudret Calik and Chief Police Officer, Pilot Hakan Kaya. It is believed that the pilots were attempting to make an emergency landing at a nearby football stadium, but landed short in the street. The aircraft exploded on impact. Calik, 30, graduated from the police academy in 1998, and had been assigned to the aviation department since 2001. He was married with one child.
