Pilot Inspector-Principal Hedwig Devos (37) died when the aircraft he was flying crashed near runway 25 at Brussels Melsbroek Airport while returning from an operational surveillance mission. Also killed was TFO Inspector-Principal Lieven Vlaeminck (49). Devos joined the gendarmerie in 1985 and the air unit in 1994.
