TFO Inspector-Principal Lieven Vlaeminck (49) died when the aircraft he was flying in crashed near runway 25 at Brussels Melsbroek Airport while returning from an operational surveillance mission. Also killed was Pilot Inspector-Principal Hedwig Devos (37). Vlaeminck joined the gendarmerie in 1974 and was navigator-photographer in air support.
