Pilot Sergeant Ed Mobley, 49, was from the Prince Rupert RCMP detachment died shortly after dropping off members of the Terrace RCMP Emergency Response Team near Teslin Lake. The aircraft took off and climbed to around 1,500 feet before plunging nose first into the lake on the British Columbia -Yukon boundary. Special Constable Tim Nicholson, 48, a flight engineer from Ottawa, was also killed. Members of the ERT immediately went into the water, but were unable to locate the two victims.
