Lieutenant George Maurice Hendricks, 51, commander of the Tarrant County Air Unit, died when his helicopter crashed near Newark, TX. Deputy Thomas Jay Smith, 45, also died. The flight had commenced at Meacham International Airport at 0910 hours and was participating in a narcotics training mission when the incident occurred.
