The incident unfolded late Tuesday May 4th when police began pursuing a vehicle that fled a traffic stop. As the officers were taking the suspect into custody, someone nearby began firing on the police helicopter hitting two crew members. The pilot was able to perform an emergency landing at a nearby ball field. the civilian co-pilot identified as Jesus Fernando Quinones Santiago succombed to his wounds early Wednesday morning. The fatally wounded pilot was a member of the San Juan Municipal Police Department air support unit. The FBI is investigating but no one is in custody for the murder at this time.
