Aircraft: AB 206 B
Addestrative flight concerning emergency procedures.
An Italian Police Air Service helicopter AB-206, from Pratica di Mare air base, crashed at 5pm local time in Pomezia, south of Rome. The helicopter was piloted by Unit Commander Giovanni Liguori and second pilot Inspector Eliano Falivene. The first died in the crash, the second just after few hours in the hospital.
The helicopter was out of maintenance and in perfect condition October 3, 2007. At the site of the crash, there were no obstacles (cables, towers, power lines, etc.) and the area is well known by Police pilots as they often fly there for training.
There were no alarms sounded or emergency contact with a control tower so the cause of the crash is inexplicable at this time. The crew was well experienced.
