2022 Tactical Drone Operator Course | Niceville, FL

Designed For Tactical Operational Support

The Tactical Drone Operator Course is three days of intensive training designed to increase piloting skills and provide students with the ability to operate in non-traditional Drone environments. Students will be exposed to the equipment, tools, and techniques necessary to expand their Drone program for the tactical environment. Each day will consist of four hours of classroom instruction and four hours of flight instruction, applying Drone capabilities to real world scenarios. Students will:

  • Understand and apply techniques for interior operations
  • Develop teaming concepts for use with other units or capabilities
  • Utilize the Drone as point and overwatch during tactical scenarios
  • Understand Weight & Balance and Center of Gravity considerations for Drones
  • Identify issues associated with working in controlled airspace
  • Operate as direct support for tactical team operations

APSA commits significant resources to providing quality educational courses. To deliver these courses most economically to our registrants, we commit to our providers well in advance and seek optimal student enrollment. Accordingly, we exercise the following cancellation policies:

  • No cancellations allowed within twenty-one (21) days prior to the start of the event.
  • Cancellations before 21 days prior to the start of the event are subject to a $50 administrative fee.

This course registration entitles only those registered to attend. APSA reserves the right to review each registration prior to approval.

Instructor Bio:

TONY DeMOLINA

Tactical Drone Concepts

Anthony DeMolina has over 30 years with the Los Angeles Police Department. His experience includes working as a patrol officer, training officer, automotive crimes detective, CRASH detective, patrol supervisor, advocate at Internal Affairs Division, and a watch commander at Air Support Division (ASD). In addition to Tony’s law enforcement career, he retired from the military reserves after 30 years of service. As an Army officer, Tony achieved the rank of colonel and was last assigned to the 76th Operational Response Command, a unit tasked with Homeland Defense and Security. He was previously assigned to the Pentagon in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Reserve Affairs), where he was responsible for strategic initiatives and actions regarding defense support to civil authorities. He completed Advanced Joint Professional Military Education (AJPME) in July of 2013, qualifying him as a “Joint Planner” capable of synchronizing operations between other Department of Defense services, other governmental agencies, and other nations. Tony spent three years as an instructor at the Los Angeles Police Academy and currently instructs aviation related topics at ASD. Tony participated as a member of a Department of Defense training cadre, providing instruction on Continuity Operations to interagency personnel. He has been certified as an Antiterrorism/Force Protection Instructor since 2002. Tony is a graduate of the California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training Master Instructor Certification Course (MICC) Class 7.

As an aviator, Tony has a diverse and vast knowledge of aviation operations. He is qualified in fixed-wing and rotor-wing aircraft. He has over 19 years of airborne law enforcement experience as both a command pilot and supervisor. Assigned as an aviation branch officer, his military career included deployments to Kuwait as a fixed-wing detachment commander, as well as serving in Iraq as the operations officer for a fixed-wing battalion. Tony holds the LAPD and Army Senior Aviator badges. He has obtained the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ratings of Commercial Airplane Multi-Engine Land and Commercial Rotorcraft-Helicopter along with Instrument Airplane and Helicopter ratings. He is certified as a helicopter flight instructor and is the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Subject Matter Expert for LAPD’s Air Support Division. Tony has examined the advantages and disadvantages of this technology as it pertains to the public service community and was a technical advisor for the development of a UAS regulatory ordinance for the City of Los Angeles. Tony holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Tulane University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
